The psychedelic 1970’s collides with the ruffled, gelded splendor of the Baroque era at this Neo-Baroque musical cocktail party. Wear something dazzlingly splendiferous contribute your wild style to the opulent spectacle, then brace yourself for some wild and unpredictable musical adventures.

ENTERTAINMENT & ARTISTIC EXPLORATION

We explore the groundbreaking electro-baroque music of Wendy Carlos and its use in the cinema of Stanley Kubrick. Carlos replaces harpsicords and strings with 1970’s sound and recording technology translating the melodramatic, excessive and wildly experimental spirit of Baroque music into the Modern age.

AND THEN

What would works by the great Baroque composers sound like if a bunch of current local musos were asked to reinterpret and play them for us? (Just as Wendy Carlos did in the 70’s) We bring together some of Melbourne’s top musicians to explore this question.

Costumes

The art doesn’t stop at the edge of the stage in this group. If you’ve never been before and are wondering how dressed up people will be… the answer is BIG TIME, BABY!! 😀 While our artists lead the way musically, we will be creating the visual element of the experience.

$5 from every ticket goes into the costume prize pool!

For extra costume points… Come dressed as the character from our feature song, “The Cold Song“, from King Arthur by Henry Purcell.

ABOUT THE THEME SONG
The Cold Song” was written for the opera King Arthur (1691), in which a character known as the Cold Genius represents the spirit of winter. (see image above). For costume inspiration, or just out of fun curiosity, Google “Youtube The Cold Song by Purcell” and have a look through the many, many wild interpretations which have been done through the years. (My personal modern favorite is Klaus Nomi’s version)

FOOD & DRINKS
Single-serve candy bar style snacks will be provided. Drinks are available for purchase at the bar.
